Saifee expedition, October 1999

When the Sun goes down

So onward we marched towards our destination, oblivious of pain and the passing time, moving ever so slowly. We had our scheduled stops at Deobasa and Cheerbasa for snacks and lunch. Then we started the final stretch of our hike to Bhojbasa at around 2 pm with 6 kms to go still. Around 4 pm we faced the threat of the terrible cold since the Sun would go down behind the mountains on the side of the trail. This was one factor none of us had come prepared for, and it becomes very cold and very suddenly as soon as the Sun goes down and shadows come out. I remember panicking a little when it started getting dark so early but very soon my eyes got adjusted to the reduced visibility.
